Honduras, a country of beautiful beaches, great weather and friendly people borders the Caribbean Sea on the north coast and the Pacific Ocean on the south. Just off the northern coast, the stunning Bay Islands are surrounded by the world’s second largest coral reef - a diver’s paradise.
Although a popular tourist destination Honduras remains one of the poorest countries in the Americas. The economy has continued to grow slowly but the distribution of wealth remains very polarized with average wages remaining very low and many people living below the poverty line. It is estimated that there are more than 1.2 million people who are unemployed.
Street life in the capital of Tegucigalpa is tough and we are currently establishing links with a new organisation so that volunteers can bring arts education workshops and resources where they can make a difference. Details coming soon..
