Creatively changing lives

School for children with speech and hearing impairments

Boy - deaf school

Project

This project is a relatively new project which works as an afternoon school for children with speech and hearing impairments.  There is not much provision for the deaf community in Bolivia and this school provides a much valued resource.     The school also makes it possible by providing the  children with transportation,  a speech teacher and hearing aids.  Until now all of the hearing aids that they have received have been analog hearing aids but with a recent connection we are hoping to organise a donation of digital hearing aids and ongoing support from a UK company.

This project also organises home visits to the families of the deaf children with a social worker and  speech  teacher to evaluate their current needs and is a truly unique project with plenty of possibilities.

Why we need you

This is a state run school and therefore lacks sufficient funds, staff and resources. The children at this project would greatly welcome creative opportunities in the classroom as art is the perfect medium for expression... There is plenty of scope for outdoor activities, mural painting, workshops in puppetry, mime, painting, circus skills, drama, collage, mural painting,  games and other creative activities.  You could work as a classroom assistant or run your own class workshops.
