Creatively changing lives

Creative Education - La Paz

Espacio cultural

Previous Project

Project

This volunteer project uses creative education to reach out to the children of La Paz including street children, shoe shine boys, children of street stall sellers and children who have dropped out of school. There are 3 parts to the project:

  1. “Formation of Socio-Cultural Animators” where you’ll work with Bolivian teachers to experience activities where you will learn how art and playing interact while practicing to communicate; to develop expressive creativity and to generate creative educational spaces.
  2. “Ludoteques” involve structured sessions in parks, plazas and libraries in La Paz and the neighbouring city El Alto where the children get back into learning through creative play. Hundreds of children, young people and adults get involved spontaneously and join in the interactive spaces for playing: plastic, drama, body expression, music, recreation, narration of tales and legends, etc. It is especially designed to encourage the children who belong to the street culture to join in.
  3. “Creativity and Free Expression Workshops” are similar but set in less central street areas around the city where activities of expression and creativity are set up for the children.

Why we need you

The project relies on Bolivian volunteers to act as the ‘animators' and leaders of the street workshops so innovative volunteers are always needed to support and to assist in the many areas of creative play. You could assist with the acticities already established or create your own street arts workshop. Can you clown, create a spontaneous street choir, face paint or make a pasta necklace? The possibilities for this project are endless.
