How Creative Corners; The Global Arts Project came to be....

I have always believed that there is no greater success in life than following your passions and living the way you want to live.   I have always tried to live my personal philosophy by following my 3 major joys in life – travel, the arts and making a difference through community projects.  But after many years of being a wandering world traveller, and not being involved in the arts as much as I would have liked, I decided it was time to do something more ‘purposeful’ and decided a travel and volunteer trip was for me.

As an artist I wanted to find a volunteer company who could really help me to use creativity in a productive and helpful way but it was difficult, and after much searching I ended up volunteering in Bolivia for 7 months with a pricey organisation and was talked into teaching English. However I wanted to do more, so while there, I organised some of my own work teaching creative workshops in the street and rural villages, running art classes at a home for deaf children and writing and performing a Christmas musical and circus performance with 80 children of an orphanage.

I fell in love with the whole volunteering experience, the country, its people and the children and the results of the performances were inspiring – these were kids who had never performed before and to see their joy at realising what they were able to learn and perform was incredibly rewarding.

After my return to the UK I was at a bit of a loss as what to do with my experience.  I tried to think of what was the most creative way to move forward and how to continue to live my personal philosophy.  So I reflected upon my 3 passions; travel, arts and community projects…and ‘whala’ decided to combine them!  I decided to create a volunteer travel company specialising in community arts projects!

.....It’s our job as artists, to have visions and then to make our visions as real as possible.   I want to encourage and inspire other artists, teachers and travellers to realise their own creative visions with communities where they will make a real difference.

I truly believe we can bring change through art and as the volunteers contribute to creative change on their projects we aim to raise funds and donate any profits to the projects we work with to supply arts education resources and materials so to help future volunteers to do even more amazing work.

My vision is for this small but international volunteer company to become a real "Global Arts Project' and I invite you to join us to help creatively change lives while creatively changing your own.
