One of the greatest joys of being in South America is experiencing the way the people celebrate. If you make an effort to search them out you will find arts festivals and events going on all year round.
Attending these events is an experience not to be missed, influenced by the indigenous population and the various influxes of Europeans and Africans they are eclectic, colourful, exciting and bursting with energy and life - why not Dance samba at Carnaval in Brazil, throw water bombs at carnaval in Bolivia, join in a street jam at the guitar festival in Buenas Aires or witness the running of the bulls, cockfighting and, last but not least, one of the great cornerstones of Peruvian culture - the National Marinera Dance Contest in Trujillo.
Do your reseach before you go to make sure you don't miss out!
