Creatively changing lives

Bolivia: Helping Hand Project Newsletter..... July 18, 2006

Greetings from La Paz. We hope that you are all well and enjoying the summer months and vacation time. Here in La Paz, the high school students and some of the university students are looking forward to the winter break which starts June 24 and ends July 16. It will be a nice change for most of the kids. They will be able to sleep in a bit instead of getting up early in the COLD COLD mornings here in the city. Central heating (and actually heating of any kind) is almost non-existent here in La Paz so the winter mornings are very brisk.

This month we would like to highlight Ruth Apaza who comes from the Yungas region of the department of La Paz. Her home town is called Santa Gertrudes and is a few kilometres from another Yungas town called Coripata. Ruth came to us at Sixto’s suggestion when her father died suddenly and she was going to have to drop out of her studies because of lack of financial support. Ruth whi is supported by a Canadian couple, is now in her third semester of Electricity at the Pedro Domingo Murillo Technical Institute, a very good state technical school, where Sixto also studies. Ruth is now half way through her program and should graduate in December 2007.

Again, thank you all for your support for Bolivian youth.

Un abrazo desde La Paz,

Linda
